Help Your Child Be A Better Reader
• Make reading 20 minutes a day a routine. Choose a time that works for your family.
• Read a variety of books including fairy tales, poems and informational books.
• Point to the words as your read so your child can match the print to the words they hear.
• Talk and build vocabulary. Discuss new words and what they mean.
• Ask questions when you read. What comes next? What is your favorite part? What do you think will happen next? Did you like this book? Why or why not?
• Make reading FUN!
◦ Take turns reading
◦ Use expressive voices for the characters
◦ Act out the story
